I think this quote means that people are unhappy with their lives, but don’t really show it. They try to hide and cover up their sadness or dissatisfaction so no one knows the truth. They want a life that they don’t have, yearning for that quietly. You see the people around you with things that you don’t have, and you may not say it, but you think to yourself how you would love to have that. Everyone is unhappy about one aspect of their life, but will not say it out loud, just keeping it inside of them quietly.

Benefits of the Iraq War

Most people focus on the negative affects that the Iraq war has on everyone. The article that I found, however, expresses the different benefits of the Iraq War. It shows the rate of political freedom in different Middle Eastern countries. Iraq went from a 1.0 to a 5.05 (on a scale of 1-10). It says that 65% of Shiites and 87% of Kurds say that they believe the invasion was the right thing to do. This shows that the population is not so poorly effected as some people believe. Security is returning in Iraq. Dictatorship is unlikely to recur, which is very good for the country. The child mortality rate has also decreased; there there was no war, instead of 100,000 kids dying, 400,000 would die. The Iraqi populatiomn portrays the benefits of the war on the country.

Habit and Routine

Everyone lives their lives following routines and habits. I have the same routines I do each morning to get ready for class. My days are very repetitive because of this and it does get boring sometimes, but if you break your habit or change your routine, everything gets thrown off. It’s hard to deal with change, and if something is thrown at us our lives come to a stop. It makes us think and realize reality rather than just our daily habits. We follow traditions because it keeps us connected to something in the past. Giving up a tradition is like breaking habits or routines-the things that hold our lives together.

What are we doing?

We aren’t doing what we should be doing. We live in such a wealthy country, where pretty much anything is accessible. There are so many countries out there that are full of poverty and starvation, yet we don’t realize that these situations actually exist. It’s not that we do nothing about it- we have charities, donations, etc.- just we don’t do enough to help. We have to power and ability to help so much and make their lives better, but we don’t take advantage of that. This results in the continuation of people’s lives gradually getting worse, and populations rapidly decreasing. There are tons and tons of children starving, begging for food but not even having anyone that can give them that. America is full of obesity and excessiveness, and we still do contribute to these poor children.

Success

A common idea of what makes a person successful is having wealth and power. If a person has an important job where they make a lot of money, people believe that they have succeeded in life. This is a general idea of society, but society cannot make our decisions for us. All individuals think differently, holding their own belief. I believe that success is when you have reached the goals you have made for yourself. Whether your goal is having a high salary career or having a family and a comfortable life, if you attain what you desired then you have reached success. To me, success is being happy and satisfied with where you are in life and the things that you have done.
